Wow what a great Saturday. We started out early and drove into the city. Our First stop was in Oakland to see the
PIXAR exhibit. It was incredible to see the talent the artists have. They work in everything from pastel, to oil, to pen and ink, to resin. It is amazing to see how much work goes into their computer animation and will make we think differently when doing computer illustration. Here's the resin face of Jessie from Toy Story and then some early Buz and Woody pics.
Jessie's face in resin from Toy Story - notice how its all gridded off for computer animation.
After we did some quick shopping, lunch and a drive around San Fransicso, we headed to Golden Gate Park. The highlight of the day was the Impressionists Exhibit at the De Young Museum called: Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne, and Beyond:
Post-Impressionist Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay. It started with Degas ballerinas, then onto some unbelievable Renoir's, Gauguin, and Cezanne. Unfortunately you were not allowed to take photographs --- but.... we sneaked a few - the quality is not the best but not bad for cell phone pics:

But the most incredible was seeing Van Gogh's Starry Night and his Self Portrait.
Van Gogh
What amazed me the most was how Van Gogh put bright colors together to form neutrals. I don't believe the face of his self portrait includes any skin tones or tans - its made up of red, blue, yellow and mostly bright primaries. His self portrait I believe is now my all time favorite painting. It was one of those days I'll never forget - the paintings and the artwork were mind boggling and I was able to enjoy it with my family - how great it is to have a husband and grown up kids that enjoy going to art galleries as much as you do.
